49, 50!

We’ve been counting the days since the Pesach (Passover) Seder.   50 days after we were freed from Egypt (Mitzrayim- a place of narrow straits);  we have been  anticipating a major event about to transpire at the foot of Mount Sinai.   (Sorry- Mount Sinai is really NOT found within the “Sinai Peninsula”, more likely it’s part of Saudi Arabia, near an active volcano.)

No more BS please!

I am sure you’ve noticed that almost always I use peer-reviewed journals to report on developments.  The few times I haven’t, I made it clear that the results had not undergone peer-review, but many folks had already examined the data and found it worthy- and those results would help folks respond to situations that required timely responses.

This year has been crazy.  We’ve gone from being relatively care-free to an agonized mess.

Our annual accounting with the government should have ended a month ago- but a great percentage of us won’t finish with this task for another two months.  Which is part of the subject matter I’ll be discussing today.

Want a job?

So you’ve been laid off.    Maybe now’s the time to consider a new position.

This is especially true for those of us who are on the wrong side of 50.  Because- despite the law (which is only as good as enforcement, which means nowadays not very good at all)- we know that hiring older folks, who were making more money than the younger folks is not going to be any better now that the situation has been in the past.

Wow!  Who knew that the SBA (Small Business Administration) could react quickly.  Those of us who watched its (in)action after Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Harvey weren’t surprised to see just 900 EIDL’s (Economic Injury Disaster Loans) handled a day after the CARES Act was passed to help business cope with the pandemic.
