This evening marks the start of a most unusual holiday. From my point of view, it’s pretty cool- because it means this season of almost endless holiday’s ends- until April. (Whew! Now, I can finally be making some money!)

Helping Hand
I thought I was going to hear an inspiring story right before the Ne’ila service of Yom Kipur. (Ne’ila is an additional service- the only time one ever has such a service is during Yom Kipur. It is when many of us take off our shoes (a sign of penitence; and ) during this prayer service for which we all stand. Many folks envision this service as the “closing of the gates”, the time on the most holy day of the year when we seek forgiveness for our failings and assistance for the rest of our lives, when the “judgement time” is nigh.)
Spit! Spit! Spit!
I remember way back when history was first being written. When I got married in the New York metropolitan area.
Constitution Gardens
It’s finally opened. I wrote about this “house” a while ago, as it stood on the corner of 17th Street and what is now known as Constitution Avenue. And, this delayed opening was not quite as bad as a site I passed during my birthday celebration in Manhattan. (The signs on E. 40th Street stated: Under Construction. To be completed in the Summer of 2016. Even though it was almost Fall 2018 and nowhere near done.) This is only 7 or 8 months late- but only open temporarily for now.
A different Sabin

The First (of 7) Day of Sukot
I’m sorry- there will be no post tonight (Sunday) or Monday.
It’s the first day of the holiday of Sukot, when work is not permitted.
Huh? 40 hours in shul over the past 10 days wasn’t enough?
Yes, another one.
We Jews know this time of year is the season of holidays. Rosh Hashana, Yom Kipur, and now this coming Sunday night begins the holiday of Sukot. (Christians call this the Feast of Tabernacles, but we know that Sukot means booths.)

Vindictive Policies
I knew the decision to impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients was clearly to terminate their ability to get help- even though they really deserved it. After all, the GOP believes that these folks are all sucking at the government tit, getting wealthy doing nothing. (As if.) Even though the data demonstrate that most of these recipients can’t work for a variety of reasons.

ערב יום כפור
The 10th Day of Tishrei. That’s tomorrow’s Hebrew Date, which means it will be Yom Kipur. The end of 40 days of introspection, repentance, and preparing ourselves to be better humans and to make the world a better place- with renewed vigor.
