When I was a little boy growing up in Forest City, I lived near the “big city” of Levittown.  Built in the late 1940s by William Levitt (who named the town in New York and its sister in Pennsylvania after himself), it was to be the new home for the returning military veterans of World War II. You see, Levittown was promising them affordable housing- with no down payment required.

TheDonald has shut down the US government- no, not in full- but a good portion of it- because he wants to build a wall.  The wall that he promised Mexico would pay for.  And, since he can’t get Mexico to pay for it, he’s taking it out on the US Civil Servants.  (And, way more than that.)

The Almond Trees are Growing

Happy New Year!!!!!

Don’t be so surprised.   Because today is one of the four new years that exist in the Hebrew calendar.   (The others are the first day of Nisan, right before Passover, which is the new year for kings and festivals; the first day of Elul, the new year for tithing; and the first of Tishrei, which we all know as Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year.)   Tu B’Shvat, today’s new year,  is when the earliest blooming trees in the State of Israel begin their next fruit-bearing cycle.

Brain Drain

The brain drain.  I guess that’s officially called the flight of human capital.  Where those who we educated end up moving to someplace else. Meaning that we not only lose the resource of their brain capacity, but the costs and resources used to educate those folks.
