Do you remember when I told you about Kay Daugherty? The aviatrix that taught Amelia Earhart, and wowed the folks from the California Skies way back at the dawn of the 20th Century (1920s). And, for whom the Long Beach Airport (LGB) is named?

Merrily We Roll Along
When I was living in Charlottesville, I watched this happen to one building.
But, here in DC, I’ve seen this happen a few times. I wrote about one such move- when the US Park Service moved the lockkeeper’s house about 50 feet to make it more of a museum.
Resolution Check-in
How are your resolutions coming?
Amazingly, most of us choose pedestrian goals. If we believe YouGov, most of us choose one of these four resolutions: exercise more, eat healthier, save money and lose weight.
Levittown
When I was a little boy growing up in Forest City, I lived near the “big city” of Levittown. Built in the late 1940s by William Levitt (who named the town in New York and its sister in Pennsylvania after himself), it was to be the new home for the returning military veterans of World War II. You see, Levittown was promising them affordable housing- with no down payment required.
QBI
I’ve discussed the new QBI (Qualified Business Income) regulations several times over the past few months. That’s the new classification that the Tax Cut & Jobs Act has provided to afford pass-through businesses the ability to shield 20% of their profits from income taxes.

Welcome to the Banana Republic

TheDonald has shut down the US government- no, not in full- but a good portion of it- because he wants to build a wall. The wall that he promised Mexico would pay for. And, since he can’t get Mexico to pay for it, he’s taking it out on the US Civil Servants. (And, way more than that.)
The Almond Trees are Growing
Happy New Year!!!!!
Don’t be so surprised. Because today is one of the four new years that exist in the Hebrew calendar. (The others are the first day of Nisan, right before Passover, which is the new year for kings and festivals; the first day of Elul, the new year for tithing; and the first of Tishrei, which we all know as Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year.) Tu B’Shvat, today’s new year, is when the earliest blooming trees in the State of Israel begin their next fruit-bearing cycle.
Brain Drain
The brain drain. I guess that’s officially called the flight of human capital. Where those who we educated end up moving to someplace else. Meaning that we not only lose the resource of their brain capacity, but the costs and resources used to educate those folks.
