Today would be my dad’s birthday.
My dad was ordained as a Rabbi and a Chazan (cantor) way, way back. It was the goal of his parents- and his parents’ parents- and their parents… You get the idea.

I always suspected this, but the only proof I had was anecdotal. Obviously, someone else decided that there was anecdotal evidence to merit a true study.
There are two firms (at least) planning to invade our supermarkets with lab grown meat.
That’s different from the folks who are creating hamburgers and the like from vegetable sources. These firms are starting from animal stem cells, growing them in the lab with a synthetic bovine fetal serum, and wait until the tissue is formed. (One firm is using real bovine fetal serum- but the synthetic version has some special advantages- at least for Jewish folks.)
Do you remember learning in grammar school about monopolies and how they were bad for America? .
We learned how the government broke up Big Oil and Big Steel. How legislation was passed to stop monopolies from forming. I certainly do recall learning about the Sherman Act (1890), Louis Brandeis, plus Teddy Roosevelt (both from school and my grandpa). Not to mention Senator Estes Kefauver and his Anti-merger Act.
I was reading an article published by an old friend. (No, he’s not old- I am.)
Here we go again.

So, about 15 years ago, I read an intriguing paper. The authors were IM Conboy, MJ Conboy, AJ Wagers, ER Girma, IL Weissman, and TA Rando; Stanford profs all. What was so intriguing?
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the USA- for men and for women. 1 in 4 of us will succumb to this problem. Coronary heart disease (CHD) accounts for half of these ailments.
