Yom Kipur- the Day of Atonement

The 10th Day of Tishrei.   That’s tonight’s (and  tomorrow’s) Hebrew Date, which means it will be Yom Kipur.  (The Tora [the bible] says – it was evening, it was morning; one day.  All days start when the sun goes down.)  The end of 40 days of introspection, repentance, and preparing ourselves to be better humans and to make the world a better place- with renewed vigor.

Diana Rigg

Another one of my TV gals has passed.  Emma Peel.  She wasn’t the first co-lead in the show- that was the actress Honor Blackman.  But, Emma Peel and John Steed made ‘The Avengers’ part of the must-see TV of the 1960’s.  The Twilight Zone, Peter Gunn, Mr. Lucky, 77 Sunset Strip, and The Avengers completed the bill.

John Najarian, Abdominal Transplant Surgeon

The first successful kidney transplant was performed in 1954 by Dr. Joseph Murray, which put Murray on the path to receiving the Nobel Prize.  Dr. Thomas Starzl transplanted the liver 13 years later, and then Dr. Christian Barnard performed the first heart transplant that same year.

ברוך דין האמת.  Baruch Dayan HaEmet.  One of the (many) peculiarities in Judaism is our tradition about death and mourning.  The statement at the head of the paragraph is what we say upon hearing of a death;  Blessed is the one true Judge.  Yes, in the middle of the trauma of death, we are blessing the Supreme Being.

An Operating Agreement is NOT optional.
