How I came to be sensitive to bias
I wrote yesterday’s blog- and the one that should have appeared today a while ago (which will appear tomorrow). But, I realized I need to explain to you how I came to be sensitive to bias. So, I am interrupting the flow to insert an article I was asked to write by Janine Ripper almost a decade ago, for a series that she shared on her (then) blog- The Beauty of Difference.

ברוך דין האמת. Baruch Dayan HaEmet. One of the (many) peculiarities in Judaism is our tradition about death and mourning. The statement at the head of the paragraph is what we say upon hearing of a death; Blessed is the one true Judge. Yes, in the middle of the trauma of death, we are blessing the Supreme Being.

I am always flabbergasted that so many folks believe that our country is perfect. Almost always, these folks are WrongWingers- and the fact of the matter is that they only know the myths- but not the facts about the USA.

OK. Certainly NOT in the Commonwealth of Virginia. (Can you imagine folks who think it’s acceptable to don Blackface would consider honoring the 16th President of the United States? The one who made it possible to terminate the concept of a split in the country?)
