This is the fourth of five updates on the pandemic. Monday will be the last in this miniseries. (I've posted about 30 articles on the virus and the pandemic.)

When can we feel safe?
We’ve heard this term bandied about. Herd immunity. If we can acquire herd immunity, then COVID-19 will no longer be the scourge of our existence. When will that happen?
Where’s the viable treatment?
So, we know more about SARS-CoV-2. (Yesterday was but just the newest update.)
What do we know about SARS-CoV-2
As time goes on, we learn more and more about SARS-CoV-2.
Our first thoughts were that this virus would be just like the flu. that meant we lost the first month of valuable time- time we could have eradicated the chance this virus would yield such devastating affects upon our civilizations.
100, 99, 98…
100 Days.
That’s right- 100 days from today (I will be inserting this in the queue- so it will be mighty close to that number)- America is going to vote.
Super Cool
So, yesterday, I spoke about titanium dioxide– memories that were triggered by this new article. Research performed by Drs. J. Mandal (he earned his PhD in Applied Physics at Columbia; now he is a postdoc at UCLA), Y. Yang and N.Yu (Columbia), as well as A.P. Raman (UCLA). Their paper, Paints as a Scalable and Effective Radiative Cooling Technology for Buildings, was published in the journal, Joule.
Memories
Ah, memories. Yes, that’s what we old farts do- we recall and rejoice- or cry- at the various stories and events of our lives.
Stepping Up to the Plate
I learned a joke about the first week I moved to Charlottesville Virginia back in 1976. Yeah, I’ve been in Virginia that long (except for part-time bicoastal living in Long Beach from 1983 to 1986).
Spliver?
Yesterday, we talked about Ali-BAL– the bioreactor that can (possibly) afford folks the ability to recover from liver poisoning. After all, we know that livers are not readily available for transplantation- and engineering a liver is rather difficult because of the blood vessel networks that are incorporated in the liver.
Extracorporeal Liver
Ali-BAL.
What?
This is the name for a new BioArtificial Liver (BAL, see?) system that is being developed. And, Ali? It’s an air-liquid device.
