i am sure it is no surprise to you that I find certain politicians problematic. The top 3? TheDonald, followed by Governors Abbott (TX) and DeSantis (FL).
Here’s a good reason why. Governor DeSantis just called for a grand jury probe of COVID-19 vaccines. In particular, he wants the vaccine manufacturers and government employees who advocate folks getting vaccinated to be probed for venal intent. Actually, the only folks with venal indent are DeSantis himself and his state surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Lapado.)
Maybe if DeSantis and his alt-MAGA insanity could read and comprehend scientific data, he would realize that it is politically driven (and not science-based) prejudices that hurts his constituents.
Maybe we all should read the study published by Drs. Jacob Wallace, Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham, and Jason Scwartz in the National Bureau of Economic Reseaarch. Its title is self-explanatory: Excess Death Rates for Republicans and Democrats During the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The study found that GOP party adherents have been far more likely to die from COVID-19 than Democrats. Primarily because the GOP stalwarts are far less likely to have been vaccinated and to use safety measures such as masks during the pandemic.
How much worse for the GOP? It turns out the study that GOP counties encountered 73 more deaths per 100,000 folks than prevailed in the Democratic-majority counties. That’s a pretty big difference. In particular, the published study specifically used Ohio and Florida counties for their data. The death rates from 2018 to 2020 were examined for this study and compared to the pre-pandemic mortality. The study results made it clear that it was primarily the introduction and adoption of the vaccines that created the large discrepancy in death rates between party adherents.
While the overall COVID deaths in the USA exceeded 1 million folks, it turns out that was 3 million fewer deaths than would have occurred without the introduction of the vaccine. Again, the vaccine adoption rate was the basic difference in mortality between the GOP and Demonocratic party members. Without the introduction of the vaccine there was a difference, but far less pronounced a variation.
Maybe it’s time to stop damning the vaccine and ensure folks get their basic and booster shots.
How interesting that DeSantis was pro vaccine in early 2021. In the meantime, De Santis has infected at least two members of my family with his special virus of disbelief to the extent that I no longer wish any contact with them. How horrible that it has come to this. They were both wonderful people before March of 2020.
Hs is trying to Out-MAGA TheDonald, Alana. It’s all chicanery, leaving his party affiliates at risk of disease and death.
