Defining Moments
Masked Man. And Woman!
It probably won’t surprise you that my friends consider me the keeper of the data. About all sorts of obscure things. Mostly because it’s true.
The Ninth of the Ninth Month
Hmm. What to discuss today? Should I tell you about my friends? Or my close relatives? Or my children and grandchildren?
L’Shana Tova, Y’all
Rosh Hashana 5782
Today is the last day of the month of Elul. (Many Jewish months have two days to celebrate the advent of the new moon- this is one such month.) That means that some 30 days of our self-assessment and personal improvement program has elapsed. The goal has been to determine how we can make our lives- and the lives of others- better. (You can also search for Elul in the index to the left and see more of my thoughts on this “resolution-making” period.)
ALM v. BMI
So, we discussed obesity yesterday. And, like our (misguided) ideas about cholesterol (there’s more than just good and bad cholesterol, since some of the “bad’ should more likely be termed “benign”), we are finding out that obesity per se is not the primary issue.
There’s Obesity- and there’s obesity!
It’s time to recognize that like cholesterol levels (I’ve discussed the problem with our reliance on “good” and “bad” cholesterol before- there are four types and only one is deleterious, as determined by Dr. Robert Krauss), there are subtypes of obesity. It’s not just folks how have a body mass index (BMI) in excess of 30.
We interrupt this queue
Yes. Another time I must interrupt my queue.
I have been warning anyone who will listen about this impending doom problem. And, damn it- I hate to be a Chicken Little.
