We interrupt this queue

Yes.  Another time I must interrupt my queue.

I have been warning anyone who will listen about this impending doom problem.  And, damn it- I hate to be a Chicken Little.

But, the sky IS falling.  Maybe not tomorrow- thank G-d.  But, it already has in Louisiana.  And, maybe that scenario can make the US and its citizenry- no matter how politically opposite they are- to what must happen NOW.

I have been screaming the alarm for more than a decade.  (Here is one of my first posts about this problem.) About what am I screaming to you?  INFRASTRUCTURE.

Not just our roads, but our power lines, our water lines, even our internet.  And, sorry your recalcitrant ones- the lack of affordable child care (so that folks can work- especially at those lower wage levels, where the available work goes begging).

Do you not see the impending doom to our civilization?   Well, then, wake up.

LaPlace, LouisianaTake a look at what’s going on after Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana.  Now, LaPlace (just outside of New Orleans) didn’t lose its levees.  (Neither did New Orleans- thankfully, after all that Corps of Engineers work and money spent.)   Nope.  It got flooded because the storm surge was taller than its levees.

But, all over southern Louisiana, there is devastation.  But, it’s the critical functions upon which I want you to focus.

Louisiana Power Outage

No power.  Not just since the hurricane hit.  But, for two, three, maybe four weeks.  No air conditioning.  No light.  No food preservation.  No fuel for  vehicles.  No water.  No sewage.  And, pretty soon, no hospital functionality (as their generators run out of fuel and begin to fail from 24X7 usage).  During a COVID pandemic.

Stay Away says LA Governor

Where the governor of Louisiana is telling the residents who fled from Hurricane Ida to NOT return.  Because there is no water, power, sewage, food, gas- in essence, nothing from modern life is available.

And, you can bet that third world diseases such as cholera and dysentery are in the offing.  Due to the lack of water and sewage facilities.

Now, just imagine that China, Russia, Iran, or even Al Qaeda decides to send a pulse or worm to destroy our infrastructure- be it water, electric, pipeline.  (Here’s a novel that will scare the pants- or dress- off of you about one such scenario.)   Now, it just won’t be one million folks in Louisiana but hundreds of millions across the USA.

Total Power- a Mitch Rapp saga

Please, regardless of your politics, whether you hate Nancy Pelosi, thing she should go or the best Speaker of the House; whether you know the Kevin McCarty has a problem with the truth, is a Trump acolyte, or a great minority leader; whether you view Mitch McConnell as an obstructionist or a realist; whether you think Chuck Schumer is a toddling old fool or in control of his slim majority- call or write your senators and representatives.

Remind them that what is happening in Louisiana can happen in their district, their state, across the USA.  And, our civilization is dependent upon flowing water, treated sewage, working electricity, and employment.  VOTE THE INFRASTRUCTURE BILL APPROVAL NOW.  Get it to President Biden for signature now.

Reach your representative

Reach your Senator

We all need it.  No, it’s way past time.   So, do it now!

  1. I heeded your call of action and contacted both my Senators. One of them is the Senate majority leader and both are Dems, so I have to hope both are doing all they can – but it is like Congress is stuck in quicksand. You aren’t chicken little – you are realistic.
