You know those commercials.
“Help! Help”
Or…
“Help. I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”

“Help. I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”
Let me set the scene.
Almost exactly 53 years ago.
I took a bus (ok, a few) to Providence, Rhode Island. Got a cab to the admissions office. For my 9:30 AM appointment. This school (OK, it’s not a secret which school it really is) had courted me to come visit the place. So, they could convince me to matriculate.
New research about sleep is not going to make a lot of people happy.
You already know that most of us (thankfully, not me) need about 7 hours of zzz’s a night to stay healthy. Those of us who don’t get the right amount of sleep are often at risk for weight gain. Or, worse yet, developing diabetes.
A few years ago, the IRS decided it needed to regulate tax preparers. After all, too many of these folks are fly-by-night cheats, others create fraudulent returns, and most of them fail to stay up-to-date with IRS regulations and tax laws.
Mea Culpa!!!!!
I really should have thought about this when I was presenting the results of studies on what tax programs folks can use. (To recap- if you are at the 50% income level or below (~$66K or below), there are free programs that let you file your taxes. [Note: Many of them actually charge for state filing; it’s just the federal filing that’s free.] One offering is great if you don’t itemize; if you do, these folks recommend that you choose another. But, if you an unincorporated business, own (all or part of) an established business (that requires separate tax filing), possess a moderate-to-large stock portfolio, own a rental home or building… then you need our services.)
A new book just appeared, written by Dr. Anthony A. Jack of Harvard. The title- The Privileged Poor.
Years ago, when I began providing tax services in Washington, DC, I was approached by a bank or two to offer cash advance services for those obtaining refunds.
Yesterday, we talked about the promise (lost) of stem cells. Which, if we were allowed to employ, would offer hope for those folks who need organ replacement- or for sufferers of Parkinson’s disease.
If you’ve been reading my blog for more than a few months, then you know that I am a strong proponent for the use of stem cells to improve our health.
Oh, goody. If we believe them, our smartphone vendors will no longer be selling our data to folks whose express desire is to violate our privacy.
