I’ve been a crazy commuter my whole life.
When I was a tyke, I spent some 75 minutes a day on a bus to get to or from school. (The school district bused us to a central location, where we all changed buses to reach our final destination.)

When I was growing up, most of us knew certain dates and events. For example, my brother’s birthday was the day after one of the most important dates- 7 December. The day that President Roosevelt declared would forever remain “in infamy”. Or, the week before Flag Day (that’s 14 June, should you have fallen prey to the current ignorance) was D-Day, the 6th of June. (Do I have to tell you that this was the turning point for World War II, the day that the “Allies” launched a most audacious raid on Nazi-held France [Europe], with some 210,000 casualties during the battle to obtain a foothold in Normandy.)
So, a few weeks ago, I reported that the social contract between business and its employees, between business and its communities may find itself revived. You know, the one that was abrogated under the prodding of Dr. Milton Friedman.
It would help if the IRS were a fully funded agency. But, for the past four years or so, it has suffered because the GOP claims (FAKE NEWS) that WrongWing (non-)charities had a tough time getting approved as non-profit entities. The GOP feels that these Political Action Committees (PAC) were chosen for special scrutiny. (FACT: All these fake charities that are really aimed at promoting political candidates from the Left, the Right, and the Middle were subject to the same extra scrutiny.)
A long time ago, there was a riddle (joke?) that explained the vagaries of American jurisprudence.
Imagine approaching an intersection- one without a traffic light, a stop sign, or a yield sign. (I told you this was a long time ago.) Approaching in front of you is an ambulance with lights flashing, from your left a police car with sirens blaring, and on your right an approaching mail-coach. Which vehicle has the right of way?
Believe it or not, it was the US Mail coach. The US Government had arrogated to itself and its agencies the right of way in all situations.
Yes, I remember that Beatles song well.
It’s appropriate today because the next 8 days are going to be insane. (Since I don’t work on Shabat, it’s really only a week’s worth of work, even though it’s an eight-day period.)
I know, I know. You thought my holiday was over. But, tonight is the 7th day of Pesach (Passover). So I- and my guests- will still be crunching on our matza. And, during tonight’s festive meal, we will parse the question of why the 7th day (and the 8th for those who don’t live in Israel) is celebrated as a special day.
I must have been seven years old when I started doing the wash. I remember it was after I had recuperated from my science experiment, which is why I say I was probably 7.
Fog.
The second a driver hears that word is the second s/he knows that life just got more complicated. Those 25, 50, 100 car pileups almost always have fog as their underlying cause. (The other exception- ice.)
A mission statement. (This topic is something that I discuss often- you can seek out mission in the index. Here’s one of the first of many such blogs.) The mission statement is a vital component, it explains the corporate culture of our business- or our government agencies.
