Form 1040 (Income Tax)

8 days a week

Yes, I remember that Beatles song well.

It’s appropriate today because the next 8 days are going to be insane.  (Since I don’t work on Shabat, it’s really only a week’s worth of work, even though it’s an eight-day period.)

Dishes packed away

Sure, all of my Pesach (Passover) dishes, pots, pans, silverware have been packed up and carried down 14 steps to be stored until next year.  But, my regular stuff- the dishes, pots, pans, food, silverware, appliances that are used the other 357 days of the year- are still downstairs.  To put those things back will take more than a few hours.  Time I really can’t spare right now.

Form 1040 (Income Tax)

Because income taxes are due in 8 days.  (You do recall that we get a reprieve yet again this year because the 15th is on a Sunday and the 16th is a state holiday in DC and Massachusetts.  That makes Tax Day the 17th this year.)   And, as if I didn’t have an almost full plate, I have clients who simply don’t understand that when I ask for something, I want that thing.  Not something they think I may want instead.

One of the biggest issues this year is that I MUST have a copy of every adult’s driver’s license.  The IRS and most states have decided that including said information in the tax return data is one of the best ways to deter identity theft.  (It’s true this year- but now that the thieves know it, they’ll find ways to obtain that data over the next year.  I wonder what new requirement that will bring for the 2018 tax year filing.)  I’ve asked at least two dozen clients for the information twice.  And, then they are angry with ME?????? when they are informed that the delayed response puts them at the bottom of the queue.  (We operate on a first-come with ALL required data are served first basis.)

Or, clients who simply forget that pass-through entities (S corporations, LLC’s,  trusts, partnerships) were required to file their taxes by the Ides of March.  (That change is a most welcome change- because folks on the other end of the pass-through, the taxpayers who need that K-1 to file their taxes, now have about 30 days to complete their taxes.  Before this change last year, too many taxpayers lacked the data and either filed without it [which is against the law] or were forced to request an extension from the IRS.)

So, if you want us to do your taxes, upload ALL your data (we have a checklist for our clients to use) to our secure site (if you don’t know what that is, please call and we’ll give the link pronto- we won’t list it here, because it would be overwhelmed by those internet truants!), fax it to MY direct fax (which means your data can’t be viewed by anyone passing by) or bring it to me- fast.  So, that your tax submissions get the attention they deserve.  From a most experienced and knowledgeable (yes, I am being modest ☺ )  professional.

1040A and 1040EZ

If you are not bringing them to us, get cracking anyway. (Unless your taxes only need a simple 1040A or a 1040EZ, you really should reconsider employing our services!)  Because you will be surprised at the stuff you don’t have at your fingertips when you begin preparing your taxes.

Eight days a week is not enough to show I care!
