I have always been enthusiastic about my ability to drive. I agree with Dr. Matthew Crawford (UVa), who penned the book, Why We Drive. His premise is that driving is a domain of skill, freedom, and individual responsibility. (In other words, driving is a means to test our skill at being free.)

The theory says…
Of the more bizarre things I learned some five or six decades ago was that everything has a wavelength. Yes, a car that weighs about a ton has a wavelength; albeit a small one on the order of 5 X 10-47 nm. And, when compared to the wavelength of red light, which is 700 nm, you can see that the wave properties of a car are pretty darned small- especially in relation to the effect of its mass.

Some of you might have never heard of this method. We’ve been using something similar (but without the catchy title!) for years, in concert with using the Adizes system to monitor where our clients currently are. I ran across this new terminology and spread the news among my fellow adjuvants. Just so you know, we didn’t coin the phraseology, James Ashford did.
It’s about time
I’ve been a crazy commuter my whole life.
When I was a tyke, I spent some 75 minutes a day on a bus to get to or from school. (The school district bused us to a central location, where we all changed buses to reach our final destination.)
Vocalese
Way, way back when I was about 7 years old, I was mesmerized with a new arrangement of Count Basie’s music. Not done by the Count himself, but a group (that I learned much later on) was called Lambert, Henricks, & Ross (LHR). What they had done was overdub all the Basie Project’s music, recreating the concept of the big band sound using only their voices. By the time I knew the group’s name, the album had been redone- with Count Basie playing along. LHR was generally considered to be the most influential singing group in jazz history. (It was also one of the first integrated groups, to boot!)
Woman of STEM
I should tell you that I don’t routinely read the obits. Oh, sure, I have friends who grab my paper to reach the Metro Section and flip to the end. where the obits reside. I always tell them I’ll let them know if they are wirtten up there- there’s no need to study those pages.
Zoom, zoom, zoom?
Almost every little boy (and a slew of little girls) is enamored of fast cars. Making that car go faster than anyone else around. (Of course, doing this on our highways often means you meet certain folks in blue. We are talking about doing this on tracks.)
