Megavitamins are Megadangerous

For decades, I’ve been telling my clients and friends that they are wasting their money buying vitamins. Because unless you don’t eat properly – or have a very specific condition (like the need for folate by pregnant women, calcium and vitamin D for some post-menopausal women, or those with macular degeneration needing antioxidants and zinc)- there is no value in taking these little pills (except to the manufacturers and vendors).

A Road Not Taken

It was more than 4 decades ago that I considered starting my own compounding pharmacy. It was an idea hatched during a meeting among Drs. Joseph Letteri, Lawrence Brennan (both were nephrologists practicing at the Nassau County Medical Center), Shelly Fialkoff, and me. Both Drs. Letteri and Brennan were gracious in offering their time and input to a young tyke like me.

If we don’t stop these practices, we won’t have viable antibiotics

We have a real problem.   Our antibiotics are becoming less effective against microbes.  The reason is simple- the  bacteria (to paraphrase from the King and I) have become accustomed to your face- they have begun mutating to make themselves invulnerable to the actions of the antibiotics.  The source of this problem is also simple- it’s us.
