It was 47 years ago yesterday- that I left Ann Arbor with some 40+ inches of snow on the ground. Leaving my Mustang behind, it having been stolen twice before while I resided in greater Boston. Taking my “relatively” brand new Dodge Dart on a 1000 mile trek to Charlottesvillle, VA, departing at 9 AM.

Martin Luther King Day, celebrated on Monday
He would have been 94 yesterday. But, because the Feds consider holidays should occur on a work day, we are honoring Martin Luther King today. Of course, MLK was murdered decades ago- which is one reason why he is not alive today.

1101. 24. 13.
No, the blog title is not a code. It;s just a reframe. I wrote the number 13 down in computer code (which is Base 2); and look- not a shiver runs up or down our spine. 1101. Or, what about when I used Base 5. That result was 24.
Memories- with an averted nightmare
Baxter, one of the larger firms in the dialysis business (but nowhere that powerful in the clinic business), made an announcement that it is planning to spin off its renal care and acute therapies unit into another public company. It expects to complete the divestiture in 2024 or so.
A concrete way to improve renal transplants
Hmm. The policy (ok, the law) of this land is that it is illegal to pay another human being to induce them to donate a kidney to you or to a loved one. That actually is a good idea, because otherwise not only would there be bidding wars for organs, but only the richer among us could probably arrange for transplants.

Drink up! (Water, that is)
With all the meds I am on, it is not unusual for my doctor to admonish me for not drinking enough water. (They all require me to be hydrated for their optimal performance.) Generally, I drink about 3 or 4 liters a day- but I also add flavoring to some of the water, since I find it boring to drink plain water. (No fizz, just flavoring. Fizz can negate the benefits of water for hydration.)
Increase the Number of Kidney Transplants
It gives me a great feeling when nephrologists and other medical professionals are recognizing that we are not properly educating our kidney failure (ESRD- those with End Stage Renal Disease) patients about all the options they may have.
2 years later…
I know we all want to believe that the events of 6 January 2021 were an unprecedented assault on the American Democracy. Except, that is what the American Civil War was. But, this still was the second instance, perhaps as grave a breach as the Civil War- graver still.
And, where was the Board of Directors?
Martha DeMeo, one of my fellow bloggers, wanted me to explain how my blog disappeared off the internet the other day.
Southwest Part II
I apologize for the disjointedness of this second portion of the blog. I had written the entire piece (both part 1 and 2) a week ago- in one sitting. It was too long for a single blog, so I separated it to two. For those of you who attempted to view my blog yesterday afternoon, there won't be a surprise when I say that it had disappeared. While I was able to recover the rest of the blog posts, this post was created right after the last backup- and was therefore lost. I had to write a new version this morning in a hurry, to re-complete the analysis.
