If you are younger than 40, some of this history may be news to you.

Many of my friends’ folks were children of the depression.  They grew up in an economy in ruins, one where it was not clear from where the next dollar would come or what would be on the table for supper.   That experience made many of these folks husband their cash, to preserve what they had for a rainy day.  And, these parents wanted their kids to learn skills that would carry them through economic downturns and prosperity.

Only we can prevent forest fires?

The disadvantage of getting most of one’s news during the day from NPR is that we don’t always get the real facts.  No, I’m not claiming NPR is fake news.  But, as happens when I listen (or even watch) Israeli news- with its rapid fire (and you thought New Yorkers talked quickly) presentation- including names and places that are unfamiliar, I sometimes get the wrong impression.

Magic Man?

Just like Lee Iacocca, Sergio Marchionne was intimately involved in making his auto company profitable, to increase its impact in the marketplace.  Except Marchionne did it with two car firms- for both Fiat AND Chrysler.  Unfortunately, he died last month at the relatively young age of 66- at least a year before he planned to tun over the reins of the company to someone else.  (He had chosen Mike Manley- the head of Jeep and Ram-  to be that person- just not at this time.)

The Time Zone Shuffle Leaves Us Cold?

So, I am including these findings for two reasons.  One, the article the other day about mom’s microbiome and the potentiality for the infant to develop autism.  And, second, my recent set of travels – which thankfully left me without jet lag, although my friend had some symptoms.

What Mom Eats?

This new piece of scientific data may be very traumatic for parents. Or, maybe these results are not translatable from mice to humans, so it’s just a tidbit to share. To be honest, the underlying facts are  not totally new- because other research has indicated that dysfunctional immune responses and microbiome (the bacterial population in the gut) composition are related to ASD (autism spectrum disorders).
