Cleaning up…

I admit it. I’ve been guilty of this. And, I should know better! But, like that famous Michael Jackson song- I’m looking at the man in the mirror- and I’m changing…

What the heck am I talking about? Our company website. We wanted to make sure y’all knew what services we offer. The problem is you couldn’t care less. Things have changed.

Your resume won’t get your that phone call by telling someone all those great things about you- it’ll get that call if you show the reader what you can do for them- NOW!

Our accolades, our achievements, our successes- they may impress you or not. But, even if we impress you, we need you to eMail us or call us- NOW- because we can help your business now- and later. (We do recognize that we need to inform you about our successes- but that ratio should be the same one we recommend for personal approbations on social media broadcasts… about 1 in 4 or 5, or 20 to 25% about us and the rest about you.)

So, we needed to consider what it is that you need fixed. And, why we can fix it for you- better, faster, cheaper than anyone else out there. And, we need to figure out how we can obtain your trust- right freaking now- so that you will reach for that phone and call us.

For our accounting division: How we can save you 25, 30 or 40% on tax costs? (Yes, we can!) How can you increase your bottom line by 10%? (Depending on your business type and structure, there are lots of ways- and none of the ones we recommend involve cutting staff or wages!) How you can make your accounting system work for you- and not for the computer program (or Excel spreadsheet) that you use?

For our product/process group: How can we make 5 more widgets each (hour, day, week)? How can we cut our scrap rate? What other product can we offer that uses the same (production, sales, networking) stuff we already have?

For our CXO group: What services will help you grow now?  How can you turn around your current situation?  How can (Betty, Bob) get trained to do the new jobs they need?  Our business has doubled- how can I learn how to manage this better?

You get the idea. Just like we needed to position ourselves as your authority, our websites need to do the same for our potential customers and clients.

We all need to create trust- and we do that by offering valuable content. (Now you know what I write this blog.)

We need to have our social media contacts with you turn to our website, which lets you know what you can do now. And, what more we can assist you in that effort for you to make a bigger difference.  (I wrote about this just recently.)

We need to make sure you are right for us- and we are right for you. Because neither of us wants to waste any time.

We made the changes. When will you?

  1. After the first of the year I’ll be making some planned changes too. By then mum’s house should be on the market and I’ll be organizing my time to allow for some growth and changes. Time to move out of potential again. I’ve been keeping moving, but instead of a paced walk it’s going to be a jog.

    Great post, Roy, and believe you me if anyone reads my comments I would go with Roy and his firm they have both knowledge and wisdom and that is a rare treasure.

  2. Is your marketing reaching your clients? You sound like you are doing a major overhaul. I wish we were, too. Trick is to say it quickly and use bullet points, colors, short paragraphs and pictures. If you need someone to critique what you have done, I would be glad to help. Just don’t judge what I know by our clients.

  3. Website stats are very interesting (not that this is what your post is about). But an observation that comes from that is that although facebook doesn’t send as many people to the website, those that come from fb stay longer. The other social media “hits” don’t stay. Any thoughts on that?

    1. I am not sure that Facebook works for every business- yes, that’s a non sequitur. Moreover, I am not sure that there are real statistics that state that FB sends folks over that stay on one’s website longer either.
      Given those two (non)facts, my guess is that folks respond to tweets looking for one answer. If and when they find it, they are done. Some may stay- because they found what resonates with them. If the FB data is correct, then it may be because those folks spend more time deciding who to visit (off the FB platform) and then check things out.
