My house is replete with art. Mostly paintings, but sculpture and crafts are also present. My dining room affords one with the beauty to augment the conversation and tasty morsels with which I- and my guests- enjoy the evening.

What happens when you choose the wrong study upon which you base your actions…
Big data. Correlation vs. causation. Most people think that it’s imperative that we harness big data to find any correlations that exist. Without once determining what the theory is that could substantiate the correlation. (If you check back to my 19 April post, you will find the references to determine what is wrong with this concept.)

Sunday is…
Do you know what this Sunday is? Oh, yes, it is, indeed, the 10th of March (2103) [28th day of Adar]. But, that’s not the point. No, this Sunday is Good Deeds Day!
Doctor, Doctor, Mr. MD, Can You Tell Me What’s Ailing Me?
When I got married in 1989, the last time I had visited a physician’s office was more than a quarter century earlier. Oh, I’d been to hospitals (broken arms, shattered glass, shattered vertebrae, horrendous wrecks), but to a physician per se- nope.

Manager Material?
Most of you know I went to a small engineering school for my undergraduate degree. The goal of Brooklyn Poly was to graduate the best practical engineers anyone could find- anywhere. Starting Up?
We began working with smaller companies almost 40 years ago. But, back then, our efforts were exclusively aimed at developing new products these companies could manufacture, market, and sell. (We also worked with much larger firms, developing new products, processes and manufacturing schema.) But, many of our smaller clients ran into problems. Not with the technical matters, but with their management and financial affairs. So, we decided to begin working with these firms to help shore up their capabilities in these areas so their great products wouldn’t wither and die because the other parts of the company were sick.
Obviously, if you are just starting out, you need to determine the legal form under which you want to operate. Should you remain a sole proprietor or partnership? Or become incorporated/form an LLC? Each has their own tax situation- some pay corporate taxes (and then you must pay taxes on the money you take out of the company), others pass along profits to you directly, and still others let you allocate profits and losses among partners. Choosing the right entity is a critical consideration.
Healthcare Improvement Can’t Happen Without Better Information Transfer
Regardless of where you fall on the ObamaCare spectrum, you know healthcare must be reformed in America. We pay too much and get too little in return. The real fact is that the key to better health is not better science. We already have great science- whether we can afford it, is another question; whether it is properly employed is yet another. The problem with better health is people and information (which, in this case, is related)- in other words, implementation.
