Come on!   You’ve been given much more time.

Because the 15th of April fell on a Sunday, the normal scheme of things would be that yesterday would have been the day to file your taxes.   Except the IRS relies on Andover (MA) to process a bunch of electronically filed forms.  And, the 16th of April was Patriot’s Day.

You do realize that we haven’t raised our gas taxes in forever, right?  And, most (OK, 30+%) of the Highway Trust Fund comes from the fees truckers pay. If we add in all the fees truckers pay (state and federal), the total approaches the halfway point, for sure.

I told you that the Tax Cut and Jobs Act (sic) was partly created (or maneuvered) as political retribution by the GOP against those states that don’t vote their way. (Here’s but one  example.)  Which was the driving force behind the plot to outlaw State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions of $ 10,001 or more.  Which would allow the U.S. Treasury collect some $ 650 billion more over the 8 years that this restriction is in effect.  (The personal tax rate changes under this Act expire in 2026.)

PL 115-97. The Business Portion, Part 3

Today, we wrap up our discussion of the changed IRS code, the changes made by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (sic).  The series started last Wednesday or Thursday, where we discussed personal tax provisions of the law.  On Monday, we started discussing the business tax provisions.  And, now some 6000 words later, we are completing the changes in the bill.

What Can We Do About Taxes?

Don’t you just love it that when the Democratic Party is in power, all the GOP can discuss is the increasing debt.  And, once the GOP takes power, they forget all about the debt and suggest a tax reduction for the rich that will add trillions of dollars to our debt and render the budget inflows to be a small percentage of the budget outflows.
