It turns out that a lot of what we were taught about sleep and dreaming is incorrect. Dreams are a critical component of sleep- they serve to consolidate our memory, and improve our memory performance.

Dear Dennis.
The man who might have written on this card once controlled Europe- three short years ago when you were born. Today, he is dead, his memory dispised (sic), his country in ruins He had a thirst for power, a low opinion of man as an individual, and a fear of intellectual honesty. He was a force for evil in the world. His passing, his defeat– a boon to mankind. But, thousands died so it might be so. The price for ridding society of bad is always high.

And, given his course load, his extracurricular activities, and the fact that he is just out of teenager, study habits are still a topic of discussion. What is the best way to study? More on Sleep (too much or too little!)
It also turns out that changes in sleep patterns can have a profound effect on our lives. A new study, published in Sleep, states that changes in our sleep patterns that we make- or just happen as we age- in our late middle ages can lead to cognitive decline. This decline is equivalent in scope to adding some 4 to 7 years to our actual mental age. Notice, I said “changes” in sleep patterns.
