Lee Adrian… (Hartley A. Schwartzberg, DO)

Yes, I’m breaking into my queue.  Something I don’t do very often.

This past Sunday, while I was celebrating with my son (and my family) his graduation from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), my cousin, Hartley (Lee) Adrian Schwartzberg, died.  I hadn’t seen him- or his family- in a while (he livesd in Florida).  I have tried to keep in touch, though.  (Facebook is NOT as good as being there, nor is eMail.)   And, I’ve thought of him and his brother, my other close cousin, often.

The Law of Unintended Circumstances

About 30 years ago, we were expanding our transportation company (which was related to our health care business) in California.   And, given our philosophy of looking for folks who needed a helping hand, we hired two folks whom we trained to become truck drivers for our firm. They both worked 20 hours a week to start.  Once they acquired enough hours to take the tractor-trailer license test (and passed), we began using them for 35 to 42 hours a week.  When, all of a sudden, one of the drivers announced he was quitting.

Children and their parents

When my daughter was a little girl, she loved to dress up.  (OK, I think she still does, but that is a whole ‘nother story.)  And, being the techie I was (am?), I ran across things that many others never saw (or maybe they did and decided that they were bizarre, or didn’t understand them).  One such item was a T-shirt I gave my daughter, that she loved dearly.

No excuses will do!

I read many newspapers every day.  I read tons of articles every day (ok- maybe only 100 pounds, but you get the idea).  Many of them all describe how tough life is, how folks get stuck in patterns from their parents. If the father was an abuser, so will be the child.  If the mother was cold, so will be the child. I think NOT!  We all have a choice.  It is not an easy one- but one we must make- and remake, every day.
