Time to learn from the camel?

Remember when I talked about evaporative cooling a few weeks ago?  Well, here’s a new wrinkle on that technology.  One that Drs. Jeffrey Grossman and Nicola Ferris, along with their post-doc, Dr. Zhengmao Lu (and two grad students- Elise Strobach and Ningxen Chen) of MIT have been developing.  (It was reported in this article: Passive Sub-Ambient Cooling from a Transparent Evaporation-Insulation Bilayer [Joule])

Now, that’s cool!

The bicentennial.

OK, so most of you weren’t around then.

But, we- America- put on a hell of a party  back in 1976.  Took  over the entire National Mall in DC to celebrate.  And, we probably were pretty united since we had just escaped the vitriol, chicanery, and criminality of Tricky Dick (Richard Milhous Nixon).  Having our first non-elected President.  Oh, sure, you will tell me that we’ve had lots of Vice-Presidents take over when the President has died- or been murdered.

Solar Cooling- now!

Not surprisingly, about 50% of our energy consumption is devoted to heating and cooling our buildings.  (This data is substantiated by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development).  And, that means that we should pay more attention to these needs- both in the design of our buildings and in the development of new apparati.
