Well, it turns out that it’s not just memories that are critical for our mental health (reported here). Because dealing with nostalgia also works for depressed or anxious folks. Amazingly, there is even a physiological response when we recall past events- our body temperature elevates. Drs. Jonata, Tomic, and Rakowski reported that that listening to music was a great inducer of nostalgic memories.
It kicked me off- again!
They knew this was coming! But, the first day it is available to the public, tons of problems present themselves to users. Now, it’s entirely possible that applications will NOT be processed in time. What is going on?
Are you “cultured”?
Do you know your corporate culture?
If you are like me, then you certainly do. You also are involved in doing what makes your company great, not sitting back and watch (oh, wait- “manage”) what others do. (You may want to refer back to yesterday’s post about leadership development.)
A Club for Growth?
Do you ever get tired hearing businesses claim that, “People are our more important assets”? I sure have. But, the key point is – it’s true! Unless you’ve seen a company that spits out widgets from a robotic factory, it’s the people that make things happen. (There are no totally robotic factories- yet. There are robot-assisted entities, but those factories still need people.) And, if the company is a service business, then it’s all people, all the time.
Another Liebster?
So, here I was by the dawn’s early light (not really- there isn’t any yet) perusing my daily reads, only to find that Muriel Jacques has nominated me for the Liebster Award... To the best of my recollection, this is my third go-round with this…so, it must be that my name starting with A makes me an easy choice…
Roy G. Biv?
I guess I should have known. But, not until I was 14, did I know this…
Back when I was young (you know, when Ben Franklin was flying his kite), chemical analysis used color testing to discern various components. And, while I had a full chemistry lab, I had stopped doing these kind of tests over the past 8 years. (My chemistry interests were more devoted to dialysis and hydroponics.) So, when I took chemistry in school, I asked the teacher what the various test colors were. Given the nature of who he was, Bob McManus (a great teacher) and who I was (a wise guy), he lied about the colors. And, I got half the unknowns wrong.
Not my normal post…
This is not something I normally do. No, this is something that my friend, Janette Fuller does. She reviews books you- or your children- should read. But, I am going to recommend a book for you today. One written by the child (Sorry, Ilana, you are younger than mine- so you will forever be a child) of my good friends. A woman (see, I can change) that I have known for most of her life.
Do you own that company- or not?
I have a good friend who shares dinner with me often. And, we often argue. (No, we don’t fight; there’s a vast difference. We have different politics- and can still learn from one another.) One of the recurring arguments is his belief that when he buys stock in a company, he actually owns a part of it.
A peek behind the Chrysler curtains…
Before I begin today’s blog, I should tell you that I am a real Chrysler fan. My car rental agency only handled their vehicles. Chrysler was the firm with the best engineering in the business; maybe, not the best designs always, but… (I also stopped being an exclusive Chrysler guy when Mercedes Benz took them over.) And, now, as you can see from the pictures, Chrysler is back in the news.
A little perspective?
Thursday, 26 September 2013 (or Friday, depending where you were in the world) was Simchat Tora- the rejoicing of and in the Tora. On that holiday, we read the last section of the Tora and immediately start anew with the first. From Zot HaBracha (Deuteronomy 33-34) to Breishit (Genesis 1-6:8).
