6 miles…please!

Today, I’m going to revisit an important issue I discussed some 30 months ago. I discussed the empirical research that showed if we walked 6 miles a week, our brains and our bodies would thank us. Our bodies- because that is about the minimum exercise to keep it in tone. And, our brains- because the data indicated that cognitive impairment was associated with those who walked fewer than 6 miles a week.

Stop- in the name of love!

Just so you know this is important, I am breaking into my queue to alert you- and everyone you know- about this breaking news. It is yet another means that our society gets corrupted. We- you and me- have to stop this- to protect our youth- and our adults.

Celiac is an Autoimmune disease

When I was a baby, I not only was afflicted with severe allergies (asthmatic allergy), but celiac disease as well.  (And, both my parents died of autoimmune diseases.)  Which became a family joke (no one ever said I had a normal family) when it was clear that I loved cottage cheese, even though I was forced to eat it almost every morning, noon, and night.  (My kids still swear I make cottage cheese with noodles, not noodles and cheese.)

You are under their spell…

So, I gave you Frank Kessler’s message on Friday.  Today, I’ll talk about how the food industry has been manipulating food- and us- to keep us addicted to eating more- and more- and more.  The industry specialists know that food’s addictive quality is a function of its salt content, fat content (squared), it’s “crunchability”, and a pleasing mouth feel.

‘Twerent me!

I admit it.  I’ve been a fan of David Kessler since his first year as FDA Commissioner. He not only streamlined approvals (without sacrificing safety), he required nutrition labelling of foods, and took on the cigarette (tobacco) lobby.  He graduated from Harvard Med and Chicago Law, ran a teaching hospital in Manhattan, was Dean of Yale Medical School, among many other things.  Just your normal underachieving academic.

Got your shots?

Given the craziness of certain people and their insane beliefs that vaccinations should be withheld from their children, it is not surprising that we are experiencing widespread increases in diseases that were once considered to be virtually eradicated.  I won’t even go into the senseless epidemic of flu that is enveloping us.

Migraines

No Gravatar

My business partner for years has suffered from migraines.  From that situation alone, I could attest to the debilitating effects of the malady.  The fact that 10% of Americans (some 36 million people) also suffer means that many, many days of productive life are affected.   And, most of those folks- and more importantly- most of everyone else has the wrong impressions about migraine.
