Where was I?

So, it continued.

Yes, I am back to  the hospital.

My health care team was very worried that my right leg was red and swollen. And ordered me to the hospital emergency room that afternoon. Except, when I stood up to leave, I immediately fell down, sitting on the floor.  No, I couldn’t get up.  It seems that my blood pressure was 60/30. I was feeling fine, despite that.

I needed the emergency team to get me there.

Human Nephron
The thin segment of the nephron needs reasonable blood pressures

And, that when we found out that my kidneys were not operational.  (they need a diastolic blood pressure about 120 mm Hg).   Which means I was moved to the ICU.  Where they tried to get my blood pressure up   They did- to about 90 for the diastolic.

I was producing no urine, which is another manifestation of renal failure.

Flat Plate (Kiil) Kidney

Poetic justice.  I was placed on dialysis, the grandchild of the machine I invented decades ago.  And, using the bicarbonate dialysis I developed 4 decades earlier.

The logo for one of my companies, a stylize kidney (or B, as in Bicarbolyte)

The good news- my blood pressure is  up.  My kidneys are (barely) functioning.

But, we don’t know if they have really recovered.  We won’t know that for a few weeks- unless they snap back earlier.  Even though I am still feeling fine.

Here’s to wishing and hoping.

  1. Oh my Roy, I’m so sorry to hear you are having more health issues! But how ironic that you are being treated by your “grandchild”! Sending hugs and prayers to you.

  2. Ray, that is so scary!
Interesting that you felt and still OK.
Very cool that machines / procedures you invented are saving your life now.
My BP has been around 160, I’d be happy to share some with you 🙂
    Feel better soon!

  3. Just imagine, if you had known all this when you invented these things- what would you have thought about possibly saving the life of your future self? Not many of us have that privilege. I continue to wish the best for you. We need you.
