It’s that time of the year. Open enrollment for Medicare. From the 15th of October through 7 December. That’s true for folks who are already in the program. But, trust me, the first time you sign up for Medicare, it’s just as confusing.’

Terror Attack Response
Here’s a question that routinely vexes me.
Am I an American Jew? Or a Jewish American?
It’s weeks like this past one that pushes me towards a routinely different answer. (I normally can use the flip of the coin to make that choice.) But, after the terror attack by Hamas last week, I know that I am an American Jew.
Friday the 13th
First, you should know that I don’t suffer from triskaidekaphobia (fear of Friday the 13th). But, today’s post covers an issue that many of you may come to fear, should you not heed the warnings herein.
Not one- but 46!
You know how we all look for that one key to a problem. Which begs the question- what makes us so sure that it’s just one key?
More concrete
Drs. Rajeev Roychand 1, Shannon Kilmartin-Lynch 2, Mohammad Saberian, Jie Li, Guomin Zhang, and Chun Qing Li described their research with concrete. Where’s the Level Playing Field?
I have been a dedicated reader of Business Week for decades. Even as Bloomberg makes it harder and harder for folks like me to do so. (How do they do that? They no longer offer a reasonably priced print subscription to the magazine- one must subscribe to Bloomberg.com, at a MUCH higher annual price.)
Shmini Atzeret
Tonight begins one of the most unusual holidays of our religion. It is the last one that bars me from working until April or so. (Good. Now, I can make some money!) The bible gives us very little clue about this holiday. It’s called the Eighth Day of Assembly (Shmini Atzeret in Hebrew).
Hoshana Raba
Tonight s ţ he the 7th day of Sukot- and this day has a special name- Hoshana Raba. (Hoshana means “save us” or “return us.) It’s kind of like a mini-Yom Kipur.
Set in concrete?
How about this development? If we add a bit of charcoal (actually, carbon black) to cement, that mixture becomes capable of storing energy.
