Health Care Considerations

So….

How many of you realize that President Biden has managed to fulfill the dream of the Affordable Care Act?   To make it possible for almost every American to obtain health insurance at a reasonable cost.  It is the culmination of the original plan.

Affordable Care Act Expansion under Biden

However, a lot of those folks were covered by Medicaid, which was extended during the pandemic.  It was critical that folks could deal with COVID-19.  41 states had joined in that plan.   But, with the ending of the pandemic emergency regulations, some 15 million folks across America were stripped of their Medicaid coverage.  Among those states “redetermining” Medicaid are Arkansas, Arizona, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.  (Oregon may elect to do so in October).  You may notice that most of these states are GOP controlled.

OOIDA Health Insurance

Thankfully, there are other ways to get insurance.  If you are an independent trucker, you can join  OOIDA- Owner Operators Independent Driver’s Associates.  These folks not only provide assistance, education, and lobbying to further the lives and economy of independent truckers, they also provide insurance for their members.

Freelancer's Union

And, if you are a solopreneur (or self-employed), you can join the Freelancer’s Union.   Just like OOIDA advocates for independent truckers, the Freelancer’s Union advocates for solopreneuers and entrepreneurs.   And, now, they have just begun to offer “Galileo”, a digital medical practice that runs under $ 300 a year.  Moreover, one can add vision, dental, and prescription drug benefits to the program.

Galileo is a telehealth service (24/7, available in English or Spanish) and operates across the USA.  Right now, there’s only a wait list- but I suggest you add your name to the list.  Because it’s a valuable program!

It is critical that you have adequate health insurance!
