Let’s get real. We are all old enough to understand what our risk factors are- including those in our family history. We also should maintain a list of our daily medications.
Yes, risk factors are correlational and not causal. But, that doesn’t mean they don’t provide us with vital information.
This information- the risk factors and our pharmaceutical usage- needs to be shared with our primary care provider )(PCP). (Now is the time to state that if you are not happy with your PCP, get another!)
Given this information, your PCP should recommend medical screening- based upon our risk factors and our age. This should help develop a full picture of our current health- and potential issues for the future.
Now, we address our diet and our water intake. Generally, one needs about 1.5 liters of drinking water a day to stay hydrated and keep our internal organs at peak performance. And, our diet should generally be healthy. (Note that while we consider yoghurt a healthy food, it’s often laden with sugar, so it really may not be.) A good start for our diet choices is the glycemic index (and avoiding sodium)?
Finally, we must incorporate exercise in our lives. Not just for body health but for optimized brain activity.. 6 miles of walking a week, 90 minutes of exercise a week- they are the minima, but, those routines will pay off by providing us a wonderful life.
I look forward to retaining you a reader for a long time.
Now I see what you’re doing here by writing about a healthy lifestyle: preserving your readership. We’ll call it Win-Win!
I am shocked to see that Sushi Rice is the absolute worst food on your chart!
I vote for Jasmine and Basmati all the time, Tamara.
Good reminders! And looking at the glycemic chart you posted is a good reference as to what food is best. Thanks for posting!
Gladyou visited and commented, Angie! Thanks.
Some very helpful information Roy.Eating real food and exercising is crucial for good health.
Well said¿ Dr. A!
Very nice
Great information for healthy living Roy. I’m doing fairly good on my healthy eating (except when Lia makes a double batch of cookies) and just drink water. Probably not as much as I should but I have at least 4 – 16 ounce glasses of water a day. I haven’t had sugary drinks such as soda or sweet tea in years!
Sounds like you have a superb plan, Martha! Glad to hear of it.
I look forward to continuing to read your posts.
Honored by your coment!
Hi Roy, I think many of us know what it takes to stay healthy. I am assuming, of course. But I wonder why it is so hard to do the right things. My family doctor have said to me that people know what they’re suppose to do. They don’t want to do it. Everyone wants a quick fix.
OH, yes, Lily- wa ll want quick fixes. The problem- they don’t exist!
