Awe

As the pandemic wave continued, more and more articles (both popular and scientific) were expounding that our lives need to experience awe; it helps us improve our well-being. Experiencing awe (something extraordinary) renders our worries much smaller.
Becoming less attuned to ourselves and paying more attention to the world around us, helps us “reframe” our existence. It allows us to become more curious, more creative, maybe even more compassionate. (That last attribute is something that most of us have lost during the pandemic era.)

A neuroscientist who was experiencing awe depicted the feeling- giddiness, slight lightheadedness, and the catching of breath- that was his experience of awe. (Richard Sima, PhD from Johns Hopkins)

One of the easiest ways (assuming we can travel in an instant, or live in a different place) to  experience awe is to see nature in its element- the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains, even my local Blue Mountains (part of the Appalachian trail).  It’s also why sitting and enjoying the sea or being near moving bodies of water put us in such great moods.  Or, the new moon (is that better termed as “not seeing the moon”) that we will be experiencing this weekend.

But, we can’t always be at those places,  But, I have found that my daily prayers help set my mood in a more “wordly” conscience setting. And, there are two or three prayers I say that truly expand my thinking. (Yes, every day as I read them.)

Today, I will share one of them.

You are the Supreme Being, master of all the earth and spheres of heaven. Truly, you are first and you are last; there is no Supreme Being but you. From the four corners of the earth, gather those who hope in You under Your protecting presence. ll who dwell on earth will acknowledge You alone as Supreme Being over all the kingdoms and countries of the world. You made the heavens, earth, and see0 and all that they contain. Who among all of Your creatures, in the heavens or on earth, can question You? Our Guardian in Heaven, be merciful t us for we bear Your great name. Fulfill the prophet’s promise: A time will come when I will gather you in, a time when I will bring you home. Renown and praise shall be yours among all the peoples of the earth. This you yourself will see, says the Supreme Being.

Hopefully, this will help you open your mind and experience the awesome nature of the world around us.  Especially when you can’t view the mountains or be contiguous to a body of water.

Happy Friday.

  1. Beautiful prayer Roy. I don’t travel a lot but going to a quiet place along the water always gives me awe but prayer is by far the best place I find it. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Spending time in nature – even just enjoying the weather through a window – lifts my spirits and reminds me of all our interconnections. …
I appreciate that when we are able to be with trees, the ocean and streams give access to negative ions and helps us reset!
    Happy Friday

  3. I love traveling. It’s great to get out in nature even if it’s local. I recently went strawberry picking and it was so much fun.
