21 veterans kill themselves each and every day. 48000 souls across the USA. Moreover, these numbers have escalated during the pandemic.

Medicare and Build Back Better
I am not a basketball fan, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know this guy. I am also not a fan of the “Shark Tank”, that CNBC television program.
A different view of dialysis?
I ran across this little blurb- and it piqued my interest. The largest carbon capture project in the UK plans to convert the carbon dioxide it captures into sodium bicarbonate. In particular, the goal is to use that sodium bicarbonate for use in dialysis, among other needs. That’s 40,000 tons of carbon dioxide a year (right now, the capture facility capacity is 36K tons). Amazingly, that means this would produce enough sodium bicarbonate to supply some 750K patients a year.
A forgotten business victim?
You know, we all thought of restaurants getting creamed when the pandemic hit. After all, we weren’t allowed to congregate indoors. And, our government came up with some nifty programs to give them cash to keep their employees on staff- and their business able to roll.
New Venture Reasonable Compensation
I had a discussion with a new entrepreneur the other day.
They left their full-time position and started their own business. (One of the key factors to remember during this discussion is that the new business is different from the full time employment they left. Had that not been true, the analysis would be different. I will mention some of those differences as we proceed.)
Retirement Plans are Getting Jiggered
Changes are coming to our 401(k) plans. Sure, the House passed Secure 2.0 (in a bipartisan fashion with a vote of 414 to 5) last March. But, now the Senate is finally getting into the act. The Senate Finance Committee just advanced their version of the bill to the full Senate. The odds are the reconciled bill will be part of a larger fiscal bill to be passed around the November elections.
Long term treatment
I am sure you’ve seen those advertisements. Truvada. Cabenuva. These are once a month (or less frequent) treatments to keep HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) under control.
Another Simple Tool Fails the Test
I admit it. I’m pretty lucky. Many people my age (and who enjoy wine) often mainfest prediabetic indices or type II diabetes.
Transplant Improvements
Like kidneys, livers are in short supply. So arranging for a transplant is a difficult task. Moreover, while kidneys can remain viable for 24 to 36 hours, that is not the case for livers. They normally must be transplanted or discarded within 8 to 12 hours of removal from the donor.
246- and hopefully counting
Today is July 4th, what we Americans call our Independence Day. That is true, despite the fact that the actual Declaration was issued a few days earlier than this some 246 years ago. And, as was true for Israel when it declared its independence in 1948, America’s neighbors weren’t so sure we were independent. OK. For America, it wasn’t the “neighbors” per se- it was Britain, which also controlled our neighbor to the North- Canada. But, even when Britain conceded it lost the States, it wasn’t until the completion of the War of 1812 that our battle(s) with Britain truly achieved our independence.
