Take a Walk in the Park Day

I’m not sure why they chose this day to be in March instead of May.

But, I am certain that we all can use a break.  To just enjoy the outdoors and relax.

Of course, most of us have been cooped up in our houses because of the pandemic.  A long two years.  And, we are desperately seeking ways to spend time with others and enjoy life as we did previously.

In my case, the pandemic coincided with my near fatal disease.  For months, I wasn’t able to stand erect, let alone walk.  The good thing from my point of view is that my absence wasn’t dramatically missed- since everyone was in lockdown due to the pandemic.

But, now that rules are relaxing, we all want to go out and celebrate.  (I still can’t go for long walks- and I certainly can’t go swimming, an exercise I desperately miss.  But, you are welcome to enjoy the walk in the park today.)

Jefferson Memorial and Cherry Blossoms

Remember that any exercise you do is more worthwhile when it is done outside. Our body craves sunshine and vitamin D (which our skin produces when afforded sunshine). Most of us can also can find a park that is not in a pollution zone, so our lungs can gulp down copious quantities of fresh air.

And, for some reason, our mental wellness improves when we spend more time outdoors.  Our stress dissipates (without even driving that Lincoln that Matthew McConaughey promotes).  Our creative juices are inspired.  And, that’s before we do any exercise.

So, how about it- make me jealous.  Go take that great, long walk in the park today.

  1. I hope you continue to recover, and can join us walkers in the park one day. I try to walk, even around the block, outside at least once a day. In the winter it can be so hard with ice and wind chills. But I second your thought and I am going to walk later today.

  2. I was just telling Lia we need to go to the park by the waterway and collect shells! Does a walk in the park count as her driving her car around the block and Rich and I doing a fast walk behind her? LOL That’s what we did today!
