It’s amazing when you think of it. About the same time that we had a clown in the White House, Ukraine elected a comedian. And, like TheDonald, he lacked what most of us would consider valid credentials for the office.
After all, TheDonald had multiple business bankruptcies, was a marketer (as opposed to a business executive), and starred as a leader in a TV program. Vlodymyr Zelenskyy, as an actor, also played a leader- the President.
And, when TheDonald attempted to shake down Zelensky to get dirt on Hilary, Zelenskyy managed to hold him off. And, now, Zelenskyy is demonstrating what it takes to be a perfect leader when your country (or company) is in the throes of a crisis.
He has maintained a calm demeanor, communicates clearly and effectively, and has demonstrated that he is as loyal to his country and his countrymen as he wants them to be. (He has also refused offers of evacuation and surrender; he prefers to stay amid the fray to lead his country.)
That ability to stay cool under pressure is one of the key factors executives need to lead their companies when they are under fire. It also allows one to discern the proper decisions, refusing to let emotional throes muddy the waters, and maintain the business’ goals and mission.
Zelenskyy also leads from the front. That inspires others to manifest courage and help further goal achievement. Creating and repeating the shared goals spurs others to effect the difficult. Because their beliefs in the good that can be achieved overcome much resistance to putting oneself “out there”.
Moreover, with his communication skills- and transparency- Zelenskyy has cultivated trust among his countrymen. Just like an executive must develop when his or her company is being attacked- so the team works together to achieve success.
The other thing Zelenskyy teaches us is that you never know where leaders may be hiding.
Yup, who’d a thunk it!
Amazing how these things occur, Martha!
