The time is coming.  Finally.

The End is Near

Except our hopes to have a slew of vaccines is vanishing faster that the life of a TrumpTweet.  Because of errors, mistake, and haste.

One of the brightest stars on the COVID horizon originally was the Oxford vaccine (to be jointly marketed by AstraZeneca).  Because of a mistaken first dosage applied, they are now repeating a lot of their protocol.  (This is especially true because the design dose [when combined with the second vaccination] only provided a 62% efficiency, the mistaken lower first dosage [combined with the second] approached a 90% effectiveness level.) This  means at least a three or four month delay before any regulatory authority overview.

[Note:  Oxford and the Russians with their Sputnik V vaccine (for which the world has ZERO clues about safety or efficacy) are now sharing notes.  Yes, the Russians have been hacking the Oxford files (and Moderna and Pfizer, the US Treasury and Commerce Departments, and god-knows-who-else).  But, this effort is a collusion since both of these vaccines are very similar and the developers hope the combination of the two will be both safe and more effective.  Both vaccines are based upon cold-type viruses that have been attenuated and modified to stimulate responses toward SARS-CoV-2.)]

The Sanofi-Pasteur/GlaxoSmithKline effort also has hit a plateau.  They found their results were simply inadequate so their hope of delivering 100 million doses in 2020 and a billion in 2021 are now at least 6 months delayed.

SARS-CoV-2 vaccine

So, what we have is the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine- and within a day or two (yes, I am projecting) a Moderna vaccine.  Both of these variants are based upon mRNA [messenger RNA], a modality never implemented before.  And, both of these offerings require two inoculations- 3 or 4 weeks apart.  (There’s only a 50% effectiveness result from a single dose; the second increases one’s security up to over 90% [and in Moderna’s case to 95%]. Moderna’s shot also stops the spread of the disease!)

Moreover, these two vaccines function by training the body to create an immune response to SARS-CoV-2.   And, that means when one gets inoculated with these reactogenic vaccines, our body is going to react as if it HAS been infected.  So, we are going to feel lethargic, have slight body aches, our arms may be sore, redness may develop about the inoculation site, etc.  All of which will attenuate after a day or so. (2% of those injected may have up to 3 days of symptoms.)

I want everyone to know in advance what these side-effects are so no one is surprised.  The side effects are going to be greater than those from the flu shots.  (These injections will yield results closer to those of the Shingles inoculations (Shingrix); also a two-dose prevention concept.)   Because we will almost certainly know the drug is working.  (This wasn’t mentioned during the trial because it would be too obvious for those getting the placebo to realize that!)

Note further that the second shot may involve slightly greater degrees of lethargy, joint/muscle pain, or headache.  Because this means we now have developed virtually full immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 enemy.

So, the rules are:   Wear you mask and get BOTH mRNA inoculations- either the Pfizer or the Moderna!

  1. I’ve already spoken to my doctor about the vaccine. Said call back next week as they will have more information about distribution, etc. I may need observation after the shots because of multiple drug allergies but I still intend to get it.

    1. We are both probably in tier 4- health care workers, first responders and nursing homes, essential workers (this better include teachers) and those over 75, then seniors and compromised medical systems, then everyone else.

  2. Good on you for spreading the word. I just got my yearly flu vaccine and am due next month for the second half of my shingles vaccine. Yeah, that first one was rough—nasty side effects. But worth it.

  3. Waiting patiently for this to happen. Have you heard anything about someone with an immune compromised system being able to receive the vaccine? Doctor told hubby he can’t have the Shingle vaccine but wonder about this one.

    1. I hadn’t heard about folks being barred from the Shingle’s vaccine.
Right now, Martha, the only contraindication (see next sentence) is for folks with highly sensitive/compromised allergic systems. Even they get the vaccine- they are just more closely monitored.
