So, I admit it. Once we were quarantined, I stopped wearing normal business clothes.
Instead of dress pants and a regular shirt, I donned sweat pants or shorts and a T-shirt- as if I were headed out to the swimming pool. Oh, wait- the pool’s been closed. Yet, that ‘costume’ is exactly what I wore for the first five weeks of quarantine.
With one exception. I agreed to a gig providing technical support to a company. They required me to wear a collared shirt, with no bright colors allowed. (They also provided me a background to affix behind me, so the details of my office would be unrecognizable.) So, for the four to 7 hours I was “on duty’, I just put on the shirt the client wanted. Otherwise, I wore my sweats or shorts.
Until the end of Pesach. When I realized I had gained about 5 pounds in 5 weeks. Whoa!
I realized that by wearing ‘slouchy’ clothes, my body felt no resistance as I devoured breakfast, an afternoon snack, and dinner.
Which meant that ‘costume’ needed to be immediately retired.
(I should say that I do ride my bike about 6 days a week, for about 15 to 25 minutes. But, my swimming routine is more rigorous- and of longer duration. And, my “mini cycle” might keep me active, but it really does nothing to maintain my weight.)
The good news is that I have managed to remove that excess weight. My regular clothes kept me more aware of my body silhouette. Exactly what I had in mind.
Maybe it’s time for you to adopt regular clothes, too. Especially, since the quarantine will be ending soon- and we’ll be visible once again.
I decided, early on, as a suddenly-at-home worker, that I would maintain my routine as much as possible. That meant no PJ’s, no sweatpants. I do admit to jeans but we used to have occasional casual days where we paid to wear jeans and sneakers (to raise money for charity) so I had office-appropriate (no cutoffs, no holes, no stains) jeans that fit. And jeans will certainly yell at you if you gain weight. I actually lost a couple of pounds because no office goodies to nosh on. But I know I’m one of the lucky ones in that respect.

I’m thrilled you didn’t fall prey to the coronavirus spread, Alana!
I put on a pair of sweatpants today for an MRI because there was no zipper or metal. They were actually too big and I’ve ended up losing about 8 pounds. I think that’s mainly from not going shopping, my granddaughter orders our food and gets us lots of fruits. We also spend a lot of time in our yard building new gardens and I lose track of time when it’s time to eat. Happy to hear you shed your extra pounds.
