I know we consider that backwards. But, that’s my reaction to too many of these “environmental” do good networks. They often have sophomoric ideas about what we need to do to make the world a better place. (I should announce that I am all for minimizing our environmental footprint- from water reuse to climate change.)

We hold these truths to be self-evident…
Our country is changing.
Normally, we would say that change is good. But, the change that is coming over America is anything but. I admit that as a Jewish individual, I may feel this change more prominently than most. Why would that be true?
Shh. Secret Discrimination
I wasn’t going to continue this, but I was having a discussion with my normal coffee buds and this issue came up. And, several folks asserted facts that were plainly untrue. Quoting that Fox News said so. (It turns out that Fox News actually has NEWS programs- and their reporting is pretty darned good. But, the shows- you know, the ones with abrasive personalities at night or blond(e) bimbos [the e is in parentheses to denote either gender] in the morning, the ones that air about 22 hours a day- are NOT news. But, they want you to think they are.)
Yesterday took my heart away
So, you probably celebrated yesterday as Mother’s Day. I know that the Phillies managed to give away ladies pullovers to those women over the age of 15 who went to the game- despite the rain, and a lengthy delay. (Yes, the Phils won!)
Look what’s sneaking in…
I found Mitch McConnell’s statement a few years ago that his top political priority was to deny President Obama a second term to be downright reprehensible. Only to be topped by his (false) claim that Supreme Court Justices are never approved in the final months of a president’s term, which killed Merrick Garland’s chance to be a great Supreme Court Justice.
Laughter is not medicine. It’s the staff of life!
I think I’ve told you that my laugh is among my most defining characteristics. I’ve been recognized (that is, without being seen) on Ben Yehuda street in Jerusalem, in a crowded bar at Christmas in Los Angeles, and at a demonstration in New York. All by folks who recognize my laugh. (Trust me- mine is so much better than the one you hear on Roseanne.)

Will lightning strike twice?
When I moved to Charlottesville (VA) way back in 1976, I knew I was in for a major life change. Despite the way I thought the modern world worked, Charlottesville was a remnant of the old South.
Rate increases coming soon…
As I said last week, the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare) program is alive and almost well. That doesn’t mean that folks aren’t going to be ticked off at changes that will occur soon.
Tip Jars
We have a slew of clients who have a tip jar. (Yes, these are coffee shops, by and large.) And, our practice has been to count the funds in the tip jar every hour, and divide those funds among each person working that hour equally. We then add those funds to the gross amounts which are subject to income and FICA taxes (and subtract the tips distributed as “cash advance”).
MoviePass Update
On Wednesday, I introduced to many of you the MoviePass program. Today, I am going to talk about some upheavals about the program- as well as some current industry response.
