Do as I say, not as I do…

I know we consider that backwards.  But, that’s my reaction to too many of these “environmental” do good networks.  They often have sophomoric ideas about what we need to do to make the world a better place.  (I should announce that I am all for minimizing our environmental footprint- from water reuse to climate change.)

So, it’s been my practice  to avoid these groups.  To not donate a penny.  Because they often espouse positions that – at least in my (much less than) humble opinions- will not advance the cause of a better environment.

Moreover, some of these groups simply lie.  Oh, wait.  We don’t call it lying.  That’s not politically correct.  Let’s call it obfuscation.

Eschew Obfuscation

(Back in the 1960s and 1970s  when we had government leaders similar to those in power now, the going expression was “Eschew Obfuscation”.  Because these politicians were so effective in double speak (as opposed to the outright lies that TheDonald spews) that it was difficult to know what was true.)

Some of these “environmental” organizations send out high school and college kids to pester homeowners.  Paying them (most of the time) a percentage of the donations that they can cajole from their unsuspecting patrons.

Which is exactly what happened to me  a few weeks ago.  During dinner (when else would you like to annoy me?), this youngish fellow banged on my door.  And, attempted to have me donate to his cause.

As soon as I saw the emblem on his clipboard, I said, “No, thank you.  And, I didn’t give at the office.”  And closed my door, setting back down to enjoy my healthy dinner meal.

Brochure left in my wrought iron fence

Imagine my surprise when I left early the next morning for the swimming pool to see the fellow left his literature (pictured above) embedded in my wrought iron fence.  After all, that can only amplify the quality of the environment, right?

Environment Virginia- note the address and phone number

So, I’m letting y’all know about these folks.  Here in Virginia, they claim to be Environment Virginia Center.  Or, Environment Virginia.  Both of which are part of Environment America.  All of which are part of the Public Interest Network.

Environment Virginia Center- same address & phone, different leader

I thought only the Koch brothers ran networks of fake organizations to push their agenda.
