No working on Labor Day. I guess that’s why I got this award a SECOND time.

OK.  I know it’s Labor Day and I usually don’t publish on holidays.  But, I’ve been remiss- several folks have awarded me the Versatile Blogger award.  And, since I was already awarded this some 6 months ago, I wondered how I should respond.  Well, wonder no longer.

Thank you Gustavo Silva and Amethyst Mahoney for your choosing me.  (I think there was a third person- but for the life of me, I don’t recall it right now.  I’m so sorry.)[UPDATED:  You bet, I’m sorry- there were TWO more.  Hajra Khatoon was one!  Allie Rambles was another!!!!!  So much for great memory!]

As I said when first  designated a “The Versatile Blogger”, it must mean that someone actually reads what I write.  Thank you one and all.

As a consequence of accepting this honor, I must provide you- my readers- with 7 random facts about myself.  (I am actually repeating some of the first recounting- there are not that many new things about me in 6 month’s time.)

  1. I do almost everything quickly.  From driving (racing?) to reading to talking to walking… there’s two speeds- fast or stop.
  2. I am blessed with three wonderful kids, a son-in-law, and a grandson.  Ranging in age from 2 to 32. (Sue still wants an honorable mention- so here it is!)
  3. I am an avid Phillies Phan- having been bit with the bug since I saw Jim Bunning pitch a perfect game against the Mets on Father’s Day 1964.  I follow no other team or sport- with the occasional exception for the University of Michigan Wolverines.  And, while they lost yesterday’s game (and with a series with an opponent), that game was a cheat- the wrong rules were applied, the game was played under protest, and they threw Charlie Manuel out of the game.  Along those lines, most of us would be hard pressed to find a better character to examine to learn about leadership.  He has to get the best out of his players- all of whom making more than he does- and he is actually loved by his team.
  4. I consider myself a Renaissance Man (no, not from the Middle Ages, silly).  My interests (and knowledge) range from politics to science, from engineering to medicine, from finance to management, with a few languages thrown in for good measure.  (I was first awarded this designation by each of my children- at various times during their growing up years.  Those awards are among my most precious.)
  5. I love to laugh.  And, it’s distinctive.  (I’ve been found by my laugh on a main street in a foreign country and met up with along lost friend [who has a different, distinctive laugh] in a crowded bar in Los Angeles (where neither of us lived at the time).
  6. I don’t multitask- I ‘time-slice.’   I fill the empty moments between words or motion with something else.  To concentrate fully, I need the TV on, the radio on, and have a task or two to complete.
  7. I sleep 3 hours a night.  And, I’ve done so for decades.

The other requirement of this award is to nominate others.  And, that’s tough- not because there aren’t good bloggers out there- but because some of the first ones that came to my mind have been awarded this honor- and I’ve given these awards to others already.   So, here goes:

  • Lynn Brown:  Her www.learnit2earnit.com blog helps you grow your online business.
  • Dana Damico:  Her www.FeastAfterFamine.com is a great find, with loving stories about loving people.  She did NOT accept the award the first time I offered it.  She better do so this time!
  • Marie Loerzel.  She is living (on vacation, now, back in the states) in Morocco.  Her sense of style and humor are not to be missed on her http://rockthekasbahafrica.blogspot.com
  • Suerae Cobbs Stein.  I love her creative ideas for home and fun.  You will, too, at www.redbarnartworks.com
  • PeggyLee Hanson.  Now, that her son’s wedding is out of the way, I am sure she will continue to entertain us with her thoughts on growth and social interactions at www.coachescirclemastermind.com
  • Tor Constantino.  From his fake movies to his family to his love for people and fun- you don’t want to miss his http://torconsblog.blogspot.com
  • Last, but not least, Janet Callaway.  My Aloha gal who just tries to have us all do better.  Even her blog title:  www.thenaturalnetworker.com

So, there you have it.  My nominees.  I can guarantee you two things.  You will enjoy their writings and you will learn something.  And, that’s what it’s all about.

Roy A. Ackerman, Ph.D., E.A.

P.S.

Oh, my, goodness… breaking news on the day before (8 Sept) my auspicious birthday…

Mike Shippey also nominated me for this award.  Thank you, Mike!

  1. You are truly a Renaissance man of this day and age, Roy! I completely agree! =) And I loved that anecdote about your laugh! =) The same has happened to me — I’ve been recognized on the streets because of mine. =) Hope you put a video up of you one day! =)

  2. What? Three hours a night? I’ve always wondered how you could read so many blogs and write them as well! My dad is a huge Phillies fan and I was growing up (when I actually enjoyed baseball). My favorite player was Larry Bowa (not sure if I’m spelling that correctly). He was a shortstop. I was nine and must’ve thought he was cute and talented. I am honored that you chose me for the award and I’m grateful for your kinds words about my blog. I am in a similar position as you except that I received this same award two weeks ago from Gustavo! I saw that you were also on his list, so avoided passing the award along to you. I will have to think about how to respond because I’m not sure there are 7 more things about myself that anyone would find remotely interesting. Although I might be able to come up with 15 more blogs. I’ll let you know what I come up with. Thank you again, Roy!

    1. Ah, I knew we had some special affinity, Suerae. (Don’t tell your hubby!) A phellow Phanatic!
And, just so you know something else (which, if you think about it, goes along with Philly Phans, too)- we don’t give idle praise!
Looking forward to reading your tell some (as opposed to tell all…)
      Roy

  3. It was me Roy, the third person was me…. how can you forget me… I am a little cross.. 🙁

But then you are one of my fav’s so I can’t stay cross, let’s say miracles 😉 and you also said sorry!

I knew these seven things about you… it was in the post when you were awarded it the first time… see, you are famous and your fans know trivia about you 😀
Some new blogs on the list, will check them out!
Congrats for the hat trick award! Have a great week! 🙂

    1. Umm, Hajra… Let me quote from your blog….
(Evil Laugh!). I wanted to trap Bill Dorman and Roy Ackerman but seems like others have already done that! So here goes…
That means- you wanted to, but didn’t! But, I acknowledge your thoughts!!!
And, I did amplify the 7 things, in various small- yet significant- ways.
Thanks for your comments- and your original intent!
      Roy
