Yesterday, we spoke about the proliferation of stem cell therapy (sic) centers in America. After all, these clinics are not regulated by the Feds, which leaves the business open to every single snake oil salesman and saleswomen. Most of these slimeballs promise to extract vital stem cells from the fat in our bodies (I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of those to donate) to create medical miracles.

Stem this stuff now
OK. For the past two days, we spoke about STEM. That’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. (Here are the links to Monday’s and Friday’s posts.) Today, we’re switching gears to a different stem- stem cell therapy. And, we’ll stay on this topic for a day or two. (I hope to keep you engaged, too!)
Flink!
Now, here’s a great combination of technology. Biochemical engineering and additive manufacturing. What’s that you say? Too much technical jargon?
Nipped in the bud?
Can you believe it? There are 600 clinics across the United States that provide stem cell treatments! Claiming they’ll fix your spinal cord break, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and ALS, among other ailments.
Print me an ear????
I bet you thought I gave up on 3D printing. I mean, the last time I published a blog discussing this intriguing technology was more than 14 months ago! Never fear- it was only because most of what is going was not for public consumpiton (or repeating what had already been done).
Blocked. So, they parry.
The hoops we make researchers go through to find ways to solve human problems- the ones that politicians (and religious kooks) impose to block valid modalities to improve our lives.
Do you believe in magic?
When will we have enough smarts in the government to allow us to start performing stem cell research? Real stem cells, not engineered ones. Ones that will let us truly help our sick, our maimed, our hurt citizens?
Spinal Cord Repair?
So how long does it take for a great idea to make it to the marketplace? Well, if it’s a medical innovation, it can be a decade or two.
Kidney Transplant Hopes?
There are some 10000 folks dying- while on the list to receive a kidney transplant- every year. But, there are still no stem cell produced kidneys. Which is why some Wake Forest researchers are seeking ways to skirt the political bugaboos regarding stem cells – and still trying to increase the availability of kidneys for those in need.
More from yesterday- but no autism, this time
You know we all think that folks who die from lung cancer just couldn’t stop smoking. Because we’ve been programmed to believe that.
