Martin Luther King Weekend 2017

I just spent Martin Luther King weekend walking in the shoes of the Reverend Martin Luther King, the Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, Reverend James Reeb, Joanne Bland, and a slew of others.  I saw recreations of Rosa Parks’ abbreviated bus ride.  And, felt the pain of four young children murdered by an American terrorist at the 16th Street Baptist Church.

When you’re young, you think you can change the world.  As you get older, you realize that you can’t do that, but you’re still convinced that you can change the town in which you live. Then, there reaches a point where you realize you can’t do that either. But you’re still sure that you can change your family. Finally, you become aware that the most you can do is change yourself.”

Progress…but a long way to go!

It was 50 years ago today.  A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin organized the day’s March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.  To strike a blow for freedom and the ability of everyone to have a job that paid reasonable wages.  A problem that still exists today- perhaps, even more so.
