Shvuot- the Feast of Weeks.
We’ve been counting since the Pesach (Passover) Seder. 50 days after we were freed from Egypt (Mitzrayim- a place of narrow straits), we were waiting by Mount Sinai (sorry- NOT in the “Sinai Peninsula”, more likely in Saudi Arabia, near an active volcano), to receive the 10 Commandments. Where the words were seen- yes, seen. I admit, until I saw the effects of a rocket plant explosion in Henderson, Nevada, I had no idea you really could see “sound”. Not surprising that those in attendance were totally awed…
One Point…
During a busy time at work, I took two days off. Because I wanted to spend time with my son- my youngest- who deserves as much of my time as anyone else in this world. Who was being honored for his service to his school.
What a difference a word makes…
The third book of the bible, Vayikra (Leviticus), has an interesting pronouncement. This book (with its ten parshiot- weekly readings, 27 chapters in all) is concerned with priestly duties (hence Leviticus, of the Levi tribe, of which a select portion were the Kohanim- priests), sacrifices, and the laws. And, no, sacrifices are no longer effected. (They stopped with the destruction of the Great Temple.)
Time, Time, Time, is (not) on my side…
Time management. I must have taken more than 50 courses. Given that background, one would think I’m an expert. Yeah, right.
144 to 120? Really?
I do not consider myself an expert on K-12 education, but I have opinions. (You can find some of my thoughts on Stuart Nager’s blog.) But, I do understand undergraduate and graduate education. And, over the past 30 years, I have seen changes that scare the bejesus out of me.
