Who do YOU trust?

Who do we want to be running our companies? Who is the best person to hire? These are questions often asked, yet rarely answered well.  Want proof?  Look at the last few years at Hewlett Packard, where directions have been radically changed at the whim of the CEO, and has then been summarily fired- two in a row and counting.

Faux-Pas or Growth Opportunity?

No Gravatar

One of the hardest things to face when growing your company is when a well-meaning staffer makes a decision- one you empowered him to make- that goes contrary to your well-conceived plan of action.   As you grow the firm from two to 10 to 50 to 200 and beyond, this scenario is something that should be part of the planning processes.

Shh. Price Increase. (Are you timid about that?)

Pricing.  Ok- don’t run away yet.  I know it’s tough to pick the right price.  I’ve been trying to get it perfect for nigh 40 years- sometimes it’s a little high, sometimes it’s a little low…and, no, Goldilocks has no better choices, either.

Are you ready? Really, ready?

Been a funny week.  First, some crazies promised us they would be raptured and we would be condemned.  But, I knew better- the next day was a special one; my relatives (long, long ago) all survived in spite of the desire to kill us all.  Then, not one- not two- not three- but four- folks considered chucking it all in (their businesses), feeling overwhelmed.  After those talk downs, another dilemna- an impending divorce (over money, not love).  [Before I forget, PLEASE read (or re-read) this post about family finances.] And, if that were  not enough, we are preparing a new service offering. I promise I did NOT bribe Hajra!

Kreativ Blogger AwardIn a fit of mischief, Hajra Khatoon has chosen to award  me this wonderful honor.  It requires me to say thank you.  (It also interferes with my meticulous plans for which blog to post today!) Ok- thank you very much, Ms. Hajra Khatoon.  The second requirement of this award requires me to nominate 10 other people for this esteemed elite echelon.  And, then to truly make you avoid completing your read of this blog,  the third requirement is that I must provide 10 tidbits of information about myself.  Boring.  Well, on to the second requirement, which has been made tougher,  because the rules also stipulate that I should not choose among the 10 honorees Hajra chose and that I can ONLY pick ten!  I would love to pick 28, but the limit is 10.  That means 18 good candidates get left off this list. 🙁

What a grandchild teaches us about financial management

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to share my grandson’s special day- his second birthday party. He was amazing. (What? You expected a grandfather to say something different?) He was happy, he was generous, he was patient, and he was verbal. He would run around the house (one of his favorite past-times), announcing “I am running around”. He announced what he was going to do next- play with his fire truck, play with his plastic dog, or dance. He made sure everyone knew what he planned to do.
