What do I need?
Roy A. Ackerman
What does one need? A bookkeeper or an accountant? I’m often asked that query. And, the answer, biased as I am, is “it depends”.
We were wrong!
I was a man on a mission. I “learned” early on that, if you wanted to make a name for yourself in science or engineering, you had to get it well on the road by the time you were 30. It was never clear if the home pressures were the issue or the fact that one would be immersed in an educational environment at those ages that made this possible. Whatever it was, even Albert Einstein bought into this by proclaiming: “A person who has not made his great contribution to science before the age of 30 will never do so.”
Facebook tweaks
I know everyone has been talking about the changes on Facebook, but, somehow, I was not subjected to the new Timeline until late in August. And, that’s when I began determining what I needed to do to create some order out of this chaos. It seems to me that this “Timeline” that FB has imposed upon us is as creative and useful as many of those “timelines” I was required to make in second grade.
Industrial Mismatch
So, unemployment is high. (I know- if you are Democratic, it’s ONLY 7.8%. And, if you are Republican, it’s REALLY 7.8% or, as Jack Welch claimed- manipulated. NOT!) These past months had anemic growth (actually, while it matched the growth in the workforce, we need to increase that number to lower the unemployment rates).
The 8th Day…

About every 10 years, this comes up again. But, at least over my lifetime, it never seems to get very far. Water reuse.

Drowning? Hopefully NOT in paper!

You know I’m an old fart. I’ve been practicing (one day I’ll get it right) as a professional for more than 40 years. Which means a lot of my “practice” got started before computers were in every building, let alone on every desk.
We built that!
Alert: This is a political blog….
I wrote a piece that I sent to a few (ok, maybe 35) friends and family, because it’s that time of year…. Election time. And, I got back a reply (or two or 28) from a few folks. And, I recognized how many people let their biases override their logic. (I know, I wrote a blog about this already, too.) But, I still get surprised when folks just don’t consider the real facts.
