On The Go?

I travel a lot.  And, it’s getting easier now that hotels have stopped ripping me off for internet service.  And, I tend to frequent coffee shops that offer free (but slow) internet service.  And, to be honest, I have found ways to slave internet off my cell phone, when I’m really in a pinch.  (I do read eMails off my cell phone when I travel, but I won’t bother reading long PDF files that way.)

Formulaic!

Chemical equations define what reactions occur when various materials are mixed.  Now, that actually has a good business purpose- because we want to be able to make our products consistently.  (And, don’t think that baking your cake or making your dinner via a recipe is any different.)

Broken Bat?

Go, Phils! (I know, we are not doing well- but I still support them. With a 2+ hour drive – each way- as a season ticket holder.  I even got back last night at 2 AM- and was at a meeting by 5:20 AM this morning.) I’ve been a Phanatic since I was 12. When Jim Bunning pitched a perfect game on Father’s Day. But, I’m not writing about the Phils, per se…

Arab Spring? I think not.

No Gravatar

We thought it was the Arab Spring.  But, now, the revolts in Turkey, Brazil, Egypt, Israel, Chile, Russia, and the various US states are showing that was too simple an explanation.  These revolts (with the probable exception of Russia) are now aimed at democratically elected governments.

SCOTUS decides that Civil Rights don’t matter anymore

No Gravatar

I’ve written about the Supreme Court before  (in general and also with  a scientific analysis of its biases). This has been the most pro-business Supreme Court (SCOTUS) ever, so it is not surprising that decisions like the ones offered this week (as of this writing) are being promulgated.  We knew this from decisions that were announced a few years ago, when SCOTUS ruled that businesses get more rights than individuals.  (Citizen’s United basically claims that corporations are people.  But, people need to act morally and ethically- while Big Business claims that there are no such scruples required of business.)

237 and counting

Whether or not the Declaration of Independence was issued on 4 July 1776, we have decided to codify that date.  And, that means we celebrate our freedoms on that day- today.  (Thankfully, it is not among those days that Congress, in its infinite wisdom [read as stupidity], elected to move to Mondays, affording a longer weekend.)  We celebrate the day with fireworks, with going to the beach, with barbeques, and with get-togethers.

Surprise! You’re Sharing!

Truth is stranger than fiction. Especially, when we are talking about how banks (you know, the industry that basically tanked four years ago and you and I bailed them out, only to have them stab us in the back) are putting the screws to their customers. No, I am not going to talk about some new fee, how they change their policies willy-nilly to cost us money. Nope! I am going to explain how the banks save money- and put us at risk.

Divorce- Technology Style

I’ve written about family law before.  You know- the fancy term for divorce law.  I not only have experienced divorce (ok, I was one of the adults- I caused the divorce; my children experienced it), but I have served as the financial manager for a family law practice for more than a few years.  This is a big business- there are about 800,000 divorces filed annually in the US (compared to the 2 million marriages begun).
