A Full Deck has passed. Now, 1000 fewer places for Blacks to Vote

I don’t normally post on Sunday.  Period.

But, today is the 52nd anniversary of Bloody Sunday.  (OK. It’s the Sunday anniversary; the date was 7 March.)  And, our great nation is NOT becoming great again because some 30 states have found ways to preclude the poor, the Blacks, the Latinos from voting.  And, Jeff Sessions (Sen. Elizabeth Warren warns us of his continued ‘racism, sexism, bigotry‘ ) is already retreating further from fair and balanced voting regulations.

Rock. Jazz. Fusion. Blues. Classical.

When I was a teenager, there were a few guitarists that grabbed my attention every time they played. Jimi Hendrix. Eric Clapton. Mike Bloomfield. Larry Coryell. They played blues, rock, and jazz- all music that I enjoyed- immensely. Jimi Hendrix died when I was barely still a teenager- of a drug overdose, but in mysterious fashion. Mike Bloomfield (of Butterfield Blues Band fame, in case you forgot) also died mysteriously in his car back in 1981. Eric Clapton is still playing. But, Larry died last month in a hotel (of heart disease; he gave up stimulants years ago).

Blame it on Cognitive Dissonance?

This fake news phenomenon (this is the third and final installment of our current discussion; here are one and two) is related to the majority of folks’ inability to deal with cognitive dissonance.  The stress we feel when we are confronted with data that is (diametrically or less so) opposed to the strongly held beliefs and ideas that we harbor internally.  As such, we are more willing to accept fake news that doesn’t confront our beliefs- even if we suspect the “facts” have been uttered by Kelly Ann Conway (as in “alternative facts”).

Have you seen this video?  More than 1.5 million folks have!  USA Today is warning us that our boarding passes have lots of information that can put us at risk.   But, USA Today started a trend.  CBS News posted the same data.   NBC, too.  Among many others .  OK.  You get the picture.
