Ah, yes. I have not reported the results in a long time from one of the (hundreds of) journals to which I’ve subscribed for more than 40 years. Applied and Environmental Microbiology, a publication of the American Society for Microbiology.

Mortgaged to the hilt?
What the IRS giveth, it often taketh away.
So, we know that if we are single and sell our primary residence, the first $ 250K of gains on that sale are deductible. Remember, those gains need to be properly determined.
This Spy Event is NOT a Secret
I live in DC. One of the three cities in the US (the other two are Los Angeles and New York City) where extravagant events are held often. All ostensibly arranged to raise money for great causes.
9-13
More than a few years ago, my youngest daughter (and my youngest for a very, very, very long time, until the surprise of a new brother) arrived.
Fifteen Years…
My 50th birthday. I was flying to New York City. To see a series of Broadway and Off-Broadway plays. And, to pop in to a special event for a youth group with which I was most active when I was young and living in New York. (Little did I know when I was a member that the organization was born the same day I was, too!) Getting to spend a little more than 4 days enjoying this milestone birthday.
LXV
Yes, my birthday is 9/9. The 9th day of the 9th month- at least in the secular calendar.
I’ve accomplished much, attempted more, and been pretty happy with the results in general. But, my greatest treasures are my kids.
Debt Financing?
So, I was reading the Wall Street Journal. (OK. I also read the New York Times, the LA Times, the Detroit Free Press, the Jerusalem Post, and the Washington Post every single day. Plus a few weekly newspapers. But, that’s not the point. )
Dear Jonathan Jarvis
Y’all know I have lived in the DC Metropolitan area for almost 3 decades. Over that time, the Potomac River has been cleaned up. (No, it’s not clean. But, coming from where it was in the 70’s and 80’s, there has been an amazing improvement.) And, over the past 3 decades, those EPA regulations that a certain party bitches about have made an amazing difference in local air quality. (That’s true even though DC has a slew of bus traffic- more tourist buses than almost every other place in the US.)
To have or not to have? (Health insurance)
One of the biggest problems with Obamacare is the the inability to determine what next year’s costs are really going to be. From the big insurers’ point of view, they feel that their inability to know who is (and how many who’s are) going to sign on to the program before they list their proposed premiums. From the small (and newly formed coops) insurers’ point of view it has been the changing rules as to who is responsible for the transfer payments from the lower cost insurance pool to the higher ones.
Labor Day?
Today is the first Monday in September. Which makes today Labor Day. And, since 1882, when we first celebrated the event in New York City, it has grown to become a national holiday. (New York State should have been the first state to make it a state holiday- but they dawdled passing the bill, so Oregon earned that honor.)
